Help

Budget mensuel is a table to follow the money coming in and going out of each of your accounts, month after month. This page explains every part.

First use

The site suggests a country from your connection, your device's time zone or your browser language. Check it: it sets the main currency, the number format, the list of suggested banks and the names of salary deductions. You can change it at any time in the settings.

Countries available: Austria, Belgium, Canada, Côte d'Ivoire, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Monaco, Morocco, Portugal, Senegal, Spain, Switzerland, Tunisia, United Kingdom, United States. For any other, choose "Other country" and the currency you want.

Accounts

Create one block per bank account or mobile wallet. For each, enter the bank (pick from the list or type another name) and the account currency. The "Collapse" link shrinks an account to its name and balance.

Entering amounts

Both comma and point are accepted: 812,50 and 812.50 give the same amount, as do 1 500 and 1'500. Negative amounts are refused: for a refund, add an income line. Amounts above 10 million are refused. A message under the field explains any refused entry, and the saved amount does not change until it is corrected.

Month summary

Planned budget per category

In "Expenses by category", enter the amount planned for a category. The "Left" column shows what is left to spend; when it is exceeded, the line turns red with the amount over, and an alert appears in the summary. The planned budget is copied to the next month.

Transfers between your accounts

When you move money from one of your accounts to another, use the category "Internal transfer" on both sides. These lines count in each account's balance but not in the month's income and expenses, so the same money is not counted twice.

Currencies and exchange rates

An account can use a currency other than the main one. Monthly totals are then converted with the reference rate published by the European Central Bank (ECB), fetched automatically. The date of the rate is shown next to it.

Why does this rate differ from my bank's? The ECB rate is an average rate published once per working day, with no margin. Your bank applies its own rate, which usually includes an exchange margin. For totals exact to the cent, enter your bank's rate.

Moving to another month

The arrows and the month list let you move around without creating anything. For a month that does not exist yet, the site offers two choices:

Savings, debts and wish list

These three lists give an overview: the monthly payment and balance of each saving, the monthly repayment and amount left on each loan, and the purchases you plan. Payments and repayments are taken off in "Left after savings and debts". For each wish, the site estimates how many months it takes from the average amount left over the last three months.

Swiss figures

If your country is Switzerland, a box adds up the year's payments on savings lines named "Pillar 3a" or "3e pilier" and compares them with the deductible limit: CHF 7,258 in 2026 with a pension fund, 20% of income and at most CHF 36,288 without. It also adds up the tax provision since January ("Tax provision" and "Taxes" categories).

Settings

The "Settings" link at the top of every page lets you choose:

History

In the settings, the history has two parts:

Account (optional)

Without an account, your budget stays in this browser only. With an account, it is saved on our server and you find it on your other devices.

Installing the app

On a phone or computer, your browser offers to add Budget mensuel to the home screen ("Add to Home Screen" or "Install"). The site then opens like an app and works offline with the data on the device.

Export and import

In the settings, under "Your data":

In Excel and CSV files, two optional columns keep the date of each transaction and the one-off lines, and the "Planned budget" section keeps your budgets per category. The CSV uses a decimal comma when your country does, so that Excel reads the amounts as numbers.

Writing your budget in a text, Word or Markdown file

One line per item, as "label: amount". The category is optional, in brackets. Headings sort the lines that follow:

Month: 2026-10
Account: Current account (UBS, CHF)

## Salary
Gross salary: 5000
Contributions: 650

## Expenses
Rent: 1500 (Housing)
Groceries: 600

## Savings
Savings account: 200 / 5000

Before anything is added

A preview shows where each line goes: month, account, section, category and amount. Lines ignored or corrected are listed with their number. Then choose "Add to my budget", which completes the months without duplicates if you import the same file twice, or "Replace the whole budget".

Files are read and created on your device. They are sent to no server. Some banks' PDF statements have a layout that is hard to read automatically: in that case, use CSV or Excel.

What the tool does not do

Budget mensuel does not connect to your bank: every line comes from you, typed in or imported from a file you choose. Salary deduction names are indicative and the calculations are not financial or tax advice.
